What exactly is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

EFT, which is also known as Tapping or psychological acupressure, is an energy healing technique or therapy used for releasing someone’s limiting beliefs. It eliminates the emotional, unconscious resistance that can block you energetically from having more peace in your life plus it’s a fantastic natural stress reliever.

It’s a simple tapping technique that gently realigns the body’s energy system and incorporates an emotional element into the healing process. It addresses feelings of negativity, depression, fears, anxiety, phobias, sadness, grief, anger, pain, trauma or just about anything that interrupts the smooth and peaceful flow of your life that’s keeping you stuck. Physical and emotional health is about balance and harmony and an out of balance energy system stresses the body and negative emotions, feelings, thoughts, ideas and beliefs are key causes of stress. Every thought and emotion has a physiologic response and through using EFT Tapping you can easily and quickly shift patterns that have been there for many decades or just a few days.

How does EFT work?

EFT Tapping involves tapping specific points on the body, primarily on the head and the face, in a particular sequence. While doing this, you focus your thoughts and words on the issue that you wish to address. As with acupuncture and acupressure, tapping involves the body’s energy meridian points. Sometimes when you don’t have the words to express your upset, you just tap on the physical feeling or emotion that’s showing up. Your body is always showing you the way, you just have to listen and follow its cues and use the technique.

When and why did you decide to start doing EFT? When I first heard about EFT it was back in 2007 when I was at a time in my life when I was grieving the loss of my mother and ending a romantic relationship. I was seeking comfort and a way out of my sadness and pain and I longed for peace, healing and motivation so I could find a path out of that dark place and begin moving forward again.

What results have you achieved by using EFT?

I remember knowing back in those early awakening days that I felt inspired to share what I was learning about energy healing and how it was impacting my personal development. Instantly I was met with so much resistance and self-doubt at the simple thought of doing that. I nearly just let the idea pass because of the fear of the unknown and the thoughts and beliefs I had about not having the skills to build a website, write content that anyone who would ever want to read, and how scary it was to put my name, my words, and my picture out there etc.

I turned to EFT Tapping in that moment because I was aware those beliefs were keeping me stuck and limiting me from creating something I KNEW was a clear, heart-felt desire of mine and I needed to get out of my own way. I began the process of tapping out the fear and self-doubt and within weeks found a way through it all and began building what became THE foundational piece that all the rest of my work has grown from.

Another more emotional issue had to do with my beloved english pointer Seymour. We had been together for 13 years and he was my favorite thing in the world. He came into my life during a time of great loss, grief and heartbreak and I chose him from a dog shelter where he was 2-yrs old diseased and depressed. We needed each other and we had a special bond and many great years together. I was there to help and comfort him in his senior years when he had trouble moving around and other painful episodes.

One day I woke up and knew that he was past that point and it was kinder to let him go and ease his suffering. I spent that final day getting the courage and strength to make that choice and make the arrangements and mentally preparing myself for the loss. I tapped all day long through my tears and waves of emotion and also waves of clarity and got to such a peaceful place where I could then spend the final hours cherishing time with him without second-guessing my decision or having crippling sadness. Just simply tapping the points as whatever emotion was at the surface was enough, and the relief it gave me was such a blessing and very healing in that moment.

How can people benefit from using EFT?

The effects can be outwardly subtle but inwardly very profound. The best part is knowing that Tapping is always working on some level, every time you use it. After Tapping, you may notice a fear you’ve had all your life is now gone; a worry about your health, your work, a relationship, or another ongoing issue has decreased so radically that you see the situation entirely differently. You may notice you begin to feel more optimistic about things and this makes a huge difference in how well you handle similar issues. Often the traumatic after effects of a disaster, accident or shock become diffused after using EFT – although you can remember the incident, it no longer upsets you.

What are EFT affirmations?

The main focus with Tapping is to identify your true feelings even whether you judge them as “good” or “bad” – it’s important to give yourself a voice and tell the truth. The affirmations come into play AFTER you have gone through the rounds of clearing out the negative or uncomfortable feelings and your energy becomes unstuck and begins shifting. You are then more open to give yourself permission to see a different possibility and become willing to allow yourself to shift perspectives and align with a healthier energetic flow and new outcome.

We each have the capacity and gift to experience ALL emotions. So by identifying and saying your true feelings out loud, you allow yourself to acknowledge your fears, doubts, pain, hurt, disappointment, etc. that are a subconscious part of you anyway. Then what you’re doing is matching your conscious thoughts with the energetic vibration you already have in your body. Tapping gives you the tool to be able to release your negative thoughts and subconscious limiting beliefs and replaces them with ones that serve you better and open yourself up to experience your natural joyful state and neutralize the emotional triggers.

Who is your Number One main role model, and why? Ellen Degeneres comes to my mind right away as someone I look to and admire for how she’s living her life and has succeeded while overcoming obstacles & challenges and staying true to herself. She found happiness and peace within herself along the way and built a life that’s centered on love, kindness, friendship, fun & laughter while giving back and lifting others up and shining the spotlight on them and the causes she believes in – especially supporting animals and the environment. She has a deep self-awareness and a simple motto for life – Be Kind. She does it all with great humor and humility and spreads a lot of joy into this world. To me, that’s a model for a life well-lived.

Who or what is your main source of inspiration and/or motivation? What motivates you to get up in the morning? For me when I get up in the morning I’m thinking about what am I going to create today and what can I do to make each day better? Better for myself, for the people I love, and for people I may never meet. I’m excited about sharing tools that expand self-awareness and planting seeds of information and knowledge that will sprout and grow and reach other seekers in the world and make a positive impact on their personal growth journey. At the end of each day, I want to look back and know that I contributed something that will resonate and last – even if it’s in ways I’ll never be able to see or know.

What are your plans for the future with your work? I want to continue to support others on both local and global levels who are sharing their gifts, talents and services and have a vision for making individual lives and the world better for all. And also to continue being a part of awakening more and more people to the deeper spiritual truths and how to become more empowered and happy in life.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? I’m thankful for being surrounded in my life by loving, supportive, generous people who inspire me to be my best.
